Metropolitan area network(MAN)

Defination:

A metropolitan area network is a computer network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than that covered by even a large local area network but smaller than the area covered by a wide area network.

Example:

A Metropolitan Area Network is a large computer network on the large geographical area that include several buildings or even the entire city.The geographical area of the MAN is larger than LAN, but smaller than WAN.

2.When this type of network is specifically designed for a college campus, it is sometimes referred to as a campus area network.

  • Ownership and maintenance is handled by either a single person or company.
  • A LAN is used in office buildings, schools, and rooms, a MAN is used primarily in cities.
  • Metropolitan area networks mainly connects businesses to businesses and businesses to wide areanetworks.
