Classical Encryption Techniques

Symmetric cipher encryption techniques

There are two types of encryption methods:

Substitutional cipher

Transposition cipher

Substitutional cipher:

It involves the replacement of characters given in the plain text and is converted to the cipher text with the replaced characters.

Examples:

Caesar cipher

Monoalphabetic cipher

Playfair cipher

Viginere cipher

Hill cipher

Vernam cipher

Transposition ciphers:

These are ciphers which don’t replace any character from the plain text instead it will change the position of letters to make the cipher text.

Example:

Rail-fence transposition.

Simple columnar transposition.

Keyword columnar transposition.
